♣ Poker Chips
When it comes to poker chips, not everything referred to as "clay" is what it seems. The high-quality casino or poker chip is a mixture - clay, combined with chalk, sand, or earthern clay similar to that found in cat litter, (but we won't go into that...)
'Ceramic' chips are common in the home market, (and still seen in the casinos) - often called 'clay composite' - they been produced by injection-molding and will contain plastic or resin, to imitate the feel, and of course sound, of a true casino chip.
The newer designs of home chips include "3-color" method to make a chip with different base, secondary and detail colours. This isn't the same as the edge-spots on a clay chip - that's done like a stick of seaside rock...
On a clay poker chip, the inlays are made of paper covered with a film of plastic - during the molding, the inlay is permanently bonded to the chip. It won't come off, without breaking the chip in halves.

Casino chips
In casinos, the sizes and colors of poker chips are occasionally specified by the Gaming Board - Illinois and New Jersey have regulations, while Nevada, surprisingly or otherwise, does not...
Casino chips have unique combinations of edge-spots for identification, and the value, printed or impressed on both sides of the token.
